Joe is an amazing human being and it exudes into his teaching. He is compassioniate, funny, creative, and challenges his students to be their best and look at the world (and history) from different perspectives. In addition to being an amazing teacher, he is also a wonderful colleague. He advocates for what is best for students and teachers at all times. I knew he has always been a great teacher, but this year he and I decided to combine our zoom classes so we could support each other with zoom, with planning, and with the overall anxiety about embarking on the new (but temporary) way of teaching. He is amazing to watch teach and interact virtually with our students and I love co-planning with him and coming up with engaging virtual lessons. Recently, my mother suffered a severe stroke and without skipping a beat he has given me the grace to be present with my family and has taken on the complete planning and teaching and grading for our classes. I am honored to be able to nominate my colleague and friend. He deserves this recognition and so much more.
