Dusty

Dusty

Dusty is new to us and we’re having fun getting to know him! He’s about a year old, weighs 60 pounds, and has energy to spare. His ideal home will be with an active person/family who is willing and eager to work with him on manners and positive outlets for all that young-dog exuberance. He is a very good boy and will be a wonderful dog, but we’ll admit that he’s a bit of a diamond in the rough at the moment.

Since we’re still learning about him, we’re not yet sure how he is with other dogs, cats, or kids. He was recently neutered and so will get to go on field trips with our volunteers — we’ll know a lot more about him once we’ve had a chance to interact with him off-site.

In short, Dusty is a sweet, energetic, happy, friendly, ACTIVE boy ready to see what the good life has to offer him!

Zara

Zara

Zara is a stunning cat! She’s got the personality to go with those looks — what a sweetie! She has a wonderful personality and will happily lay in your lap! She can be a little timid (which causes her to hiss sometimes), but she isn’t aggressive. She is simply an exceptional and stunning black cat!

Kona

Kona

This pretty girl is Kona! Some lucky family is going to hit the jackpot with this spitfire! Kona was found as a stray in West Frankfort back in November 2020, and, despite efforts, her previous owners weren’t located.

She’s been hanging out in a foster home and we have learned so much about her – her new family is going to get “The Complete Guide to Kona” when they adopt her! (No joke – we have an amazing list of her likes, dislikes, and quirks to give to her adopters.)

Her foster family adores her and would love to keep her, but Kona needs to be an only child (no other dogs, no cats). Luckily, she is very lovable and will make the right person an awesome best friend! She loves attention and will do well as long as she has that, along with regular exercise.

Kona is housebroken and crate-trained. She is accustomed to sleeping in her kennel at night. She loves to be covered up with a blanket when she lays down for the night with her bone handy to chew on.

She knows a few commands (“sit and “shake) and could easily learn a lot more! She doesn’t like the rain and would much prefer to spend drizzly days cuddled up with you on the couch. Oddly enough, she doesn’t mind baths!

Kona has a sensitive stomach, but her foster mom reports that she does well on a strict treat-free diet with just the occasional small piece of carrot as a snack. Her new family will need to be diligent about making sure she doesn’t eat anything she shouldn’t.

She likes to chew on her Nylabones and shinbones when by herself, but should always be supervised with any other toys/bones (as she will eat them given the chance).

Kona is a handful – she likes to jump on people, plays rough, and will sometimes nip at you while she is playing, but she has never shown any aggression toward people. We haven’t seen her around small children, but she is much too rowdy for them. Older kids would probably be fine.

Her foster mom says, “I believe that she would do awesome with training to correct some of her bad habits, with someone is willing to go the extra mile for her.

She is strong, energetic, and full of life! If that’s what you’re looking for, maybe you’re Kona’s new best friend?

Toby Jo

Toby Jo

Toby Jo is a sweet boy who loves his head rubs and is getting used to the good life! He was pretty scared when he first got to the shelter but seems to be coming around. And although he’s still a bit timid, he’s getting more comfortable with people, as long as he can go at his own pace.

He’s about a year old and weighs 10 pounds. We haven’t kid- or dog-tested him yet, but will update his profile when we have more information. He’s in our cat room right and is doing well negotiating the shared space with our Queen Bee!

If you have a soft spot for the shy ones who are just learning that the world can be a good place, please consider Toby Jo!

Sissy

Sissy

Sissy here! I am an 8 year old gal and boy could I tell you some stories… I was found in a vacant home after my people decided to leave me there alone with my 6 puppies — I tried the best I could to take care of everyone but it was really hard. Thank goodness someone found us! These nice people are helping me find a real home with real people who will love me — I can’t wait!

I am a Boxer mix and I get along well with most other dogs, although I can be a bit picky and other girl dogs annoy me. I am housebroken, which I know is really important to most people.

I weigh 60 pounds and I know I’m a little older than most dogs here, but I still have a lot of love to give and fun to experience. I’m a pretty energetic ol’ gal! And I think it’s my turn to be loved unconditionally like I have loved others my whole life.

I got to go on a field trip recently and my adventure buddy said this about my traveling style: “Sissy didn’t ever run towards cars or kids/adults when we were on our walk — she wouldn’t pay attention to them. She was very good at staying away from moving cars!”

(We don’t know how Sissy is with kids yet, since we’ve not seen her around any yet.)

Bella

Bella

Bella here! I am a 2 year old Great Dane mix. I weigh 60 pounds and I’m a great girl!

I get along well with other most dogs and cats, and I love kids! What more could you ask for? I will be a great best friend for some lucky person and can’t wait to have someone of my very own to love!

Bella went on a field trip recently and here’s what her adventure buddy had to say: “Bella’s Big Day Out didn’t get to be as Big as I’d hoped — she got a little car sick so we stuck close to home. (Just like with 2-legged kids, sometimes you have to roll with the punches!) But I think it’s safe to say she had a good day. A walk at the fairgrounds, the requisite stop at McDonald’s, made a stop in O’Reilly’s to drop off some lunch, back to the fairgrounds for a picnic where she met a new friend (PCHS alumni Penny), then on to the home front for a play date with Pepper and Chase. This girl is so sweet. She needs to find her forever home so badly — she’s going to make an amazing family member!”

Lacey

Lacey

I’m Lacey and I am a cute Tortie Girl who was abandoned and left to fend for myself. I am around 2 years old and weigh 9 pounds. I don’t like dogs and I’m picky about my cat friends. I’m the boss in the cat room; I might be able to live with another cat if they were submissive.

I’m glad I’m here and out of the cold, but I’d much rather be in a real home. I promise I will love you forever!

Smith

Smith

Meet Smith! He is thought to be a terrier mix who is likely 3-4 years old. He weighs 50 pounds and as friendly with dogs, but tends to be picky about which dogs he will actually be friends with. He does not get along well with cats, but he is kid-friendly!

Smith would LOVE to be in a family that is active and likes to be outside. He has lots of energy and is always ready to play, but definitely has a soft side and would be a great movie-watching buddy. He was found running at large and was brought to PCHS to find his perfect family.

Something important to note about Smith is that he is quite the escape artist and has been known to climb fences, so he needs somewhere extra safe to live!

Harley

Harley

Harley is a whole lotta dog – a lotta fun, a lotta energy, a lotta friend! He needs an active family and a strong leader to help him become the best dog he can be. He is 1-2 years old, weighs 65 pounds, and is strong as an ox.

He’s energetic, affectionate, and always ready for action! He also knows when to sit that butt down — for treats, at the door, and before being given the okay to gobble his dinner. He’s an eager learner who would love to be taught more.

Harley also is great in the car, loves water, and knows the rules about pottying! He’s a great dog! Always smiling! Harley also has an adorable overbite, but that’s really just the icing on the cake.

Harley can be dog selective and does NOT prefer the company of cats. He would most likely be fine with kids who are a little older due to his size. Due to his energy level, we’re recommending a fenced-in yard for Harley, as well as a couple meet-and-greets prior to adoption.

Harley just wants a second chance at love and companionship! Can you give him a chance?

Hamlin

Hamlin

Hamlin is a 5 year old lab mix who weighs 70 pounds. He is one handsome fella and is looking for a family as active as he is! He loves running around in our play yard, making new friends, and living life to its fullest. If you like adventure and exploration, Hamlin might just be your guy!

He’s a big, strong dog, but he knows to sit for treats and to go in/out of his run, and we think he would love to learn more.

Hamlin needs a forever home without cats. He gets along with most dogs, but we recommend a slow introduction. He also does well with his potty habits, leading us to believe he’s either housebroken or could easily be. Due to his energy level, we’re recommending a fenced-in yard for Hamlin, as well as a couple meet-and-greets prior to adoption.

Mr. Meowgi

Mr. Meowgi

Mr. Meowgi is a special boy who was found abandoned. He is around 3 years old. He is FIV+ so needs to be the only other cat or with other FIV+ kitties.

He’s a delight to have around PCHS, but what we want for him is to have a special place to call home! Can you give him a chance at a good life? The only catch? He does not like dogs at all. So, if you’re a pooch-free home, this boy may be your guy!
